Las fallas in Valencia (Spain) is the most important celebration in Valencia with many activities and parties to attend.
Every year in mid-March las fallas is celebrated for 5 days long with events and parties in the streets, however there are celebrations, fireworks and loud, colorful explosions (mascletás) that happen in the streets during all the event. Elaborate dolls and puppets (these are the fallas) reaching five stories high are made by artists out of paper maché and then brought through the streets during the events.
On the last night, the fallas are burned in a huge bonfire and celebrated with fireworks and more parties. All of this is to celebrate Saint Joseph, who was a carpenter and when the winter months ended, would celebrate by burning the planks of wood he used to support his candles during working hours.
The city streets are filled with thousands of people all day and night, and since many people travel from all over the world to experience las fallas in Valencia (Spain), the city can get very crowded, so it’s best to walk or take the city bus.
